Description:

The course deals with the regulation of sports activity. Since sports activity is extremely complex, sports law encompasses elements of different traditional legal areas. E.g., when regulating sports associations sports law is closely related to the company law. The law of associationa and sports limited liability companies is espacially significant. Individual rights and obligations of sportsmen are regulated by sports contract law and sports tort law. The course highlights the international and European aspect of sports law, which arises out of the fact that sports associationa are often conected on an international level.

Cognitive Skills:

Knowledge and understanding

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- explain the concept and development of sports law;

- identify domestic and foreign sources of sports law;

- identify subjects of sports law;

- explain the relation between sports law and other branches of law;

- explain liability for damage of the player, coach, referee, association, state and observer;

- describe specific characteristics of contract in sports law (professional, amateur, minor);

- explain the collision between classic civil law contract and special sports law contract;

- recognise the difference between professional and amateur sport.

 

Application

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- interpret domestic sports legislation and domestic and foreign autonomous sopurces of sports law;

- select relevant legal rules and institutes;

- independently use regulations from the area of sports law;

- conduct an independent research of sources in order to find the most appropriate solution in a concrete situation.

 

Analysis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- categorise systems of sport competitions;

- distinguish between different forms of organisation of sport culbs;

- analyse legal frameworks of the transfers of professional sportsmen;

- compare specific solutions with regard to employment relations and social security systems of sportsmen with regard to customary rules of labour law.

 

Synthesis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- prepare contracts in sports law (f.e. for professional sportsman, amateur and minor);

- prepare concrete solutions with regard to liability for damage (f.e. liability of the player, coach, referee, observer)

- propose concrete solutions with regard to the change of status of the sportsman's membership in an association as a condition for competition;

- formulate foundations for establishing or reforming a sports club.

 

Evaluation

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- assess the relation between sports law and similar branches of civil law, especially company law and contract law;

- evaluate advantages that a certain form of sports culb has;

- evaluate the level of protection that sports law provides to sportsmen;

- assess the influence of party autonomy on the structure of sports organisations.

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- orally express their opinions from the area of sports law,

- prepare short reviews from the topics of sports law in writing, using basic scientifici instruments,

- prepare proposals of sports law contracts,

- apply information technology in presenting their conclusions.

 

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

- In the stage of preparation of teaching materials, realisation of learning outcomes is monitored through benchmarking,

- In the stage of implementation of teaching program outcomes are controlled by monitoring attendance and reactions of students,

- Students may address the teacher personally or via e-mail

- After the implementation, learning outcomes are tested at an oral examination
