The focus of the course is the field of civil law. Starting from the German Civil Code (BGB), the issues of legal capacity and giving a proxy are presented, the questions of contractual liability and liability for the violation of law as well as preconditions for the annulment of a contract are discussed. The institute of divorce is presented on the basis of the Swiss legal system.

Cognitive Skills:
  • explain the structure of the German civil code (BGB) and the power of attorney
  • provide examples of various powers of attorney
  • name the basic conditions for contract formation according to the BGB
  • define the law of obligations, i.e. the legal consequences of a contractual relationship
  • identify the key structural elements and information contained in a (lease) agreement
  • explain the term misrepresentation in contractual relationships
