Zdenko Babić obtained his PhD degree (2007) from Faculty of Economics, Zagreb University with thesis "Social transfers and efficiency of social assistance in Croatia". His research interests include social policy, labour market and social economy and social entrepreneurship. That is documented in his publications and research projects in which he was involved. At the undergraduate study of Social work he teaches following subjects: “Introduction to social policy”, “Croatian social policy”, “Economics of social policy” and “Managment in social sector” while at postgraduate study he teaches “Social policy and social development” and ' Social economy and Social entrepreneurship'. He has actively participated and presented his work at several domestic and international scientific conferences.
2019/20/21 is currently engaged as a Croatian national expert (with colleagues Bežovan and Šućur) within ESPN expert network -European social policy expert network https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=1135&langId=en- European Comission funded project.
2016-2021 was Croatian national expert within European centre of expertise in the field of labour law, employment and labour market policies. Project commissioned by DG Employment of the European Commission https://op.europa.eu/en/publication-detail/-/publication/5d513dbb-c136-11e8-9893-01aa75ed71a1.
2017/18 was national consultant for Croatia (with Zoran Šućur) on the project commissioned by DG for Structural Reform Support Service (SRSS) of the European Commission project ‘Support to the Harmonization of Local Benefits Using ESSPROS Methodology in Croatia’.

2014/15 national expert within UNICEF funded project: Poverty and welfare of preschool children in Croatia., in collaboration with Z. Šućur; O.Družić and M.Kletečki Radović.

2008/2009 he was national consultant for the European Commission funded project “Social inclusion and income distribution in the European union” in cooperation with Tarki Institute, Budapest and European observatory on the social situation in 2008/2009 available at: www.euro.centre.org/data/1234517102_78104.pdf.
From 2005-2010 he was also leading consultant on several UNICEF, UNDP and one World Bank projects in Croatia.
