English for Tax Professionals II is second of four compulsory courses in English for special purposes in the professional tax study. The course focuses on terminology of taxation and tax systems. In the introduction to the course, the students are acquainted with the basic terminology of calculations, accounting and money transfers. Following that, the notion of tax is analysed through a number of definitions, and related terms and collocations are introduced. The students also get acquainted with the names of the most common taxes from various systems. The next chapter deals with the classifications and types of taxes. Further, the general and special purposes of taxation are discussed. The second part of the course deals with the Croatian tax system. Subjects of taxation are enumerated, along with their rights and obligations. Several taxes are dealt with in more detail. Firstly, the main concepts relating to VAT are introduced, along with VAT taxpayers, the tax base and calculation method. Next is the personal income tax, the taxpayers, the pertinent tax brackets and rates and calculation methods. FInally, a brief chapter is dedicated to the corporate income tax. The course places an emphasis on tax terminology. In dealing with the above mentioned topics, the students get an opportunity to learn written and oral expression using relevant terminology. |
